Word on the literary street is that Essence magazine might be folding. There are a couple signs this could be true. First, a press release went out today announcing the retirement of Beauty and Cover Director Mikki Taylor who's been at Essence for 30 years. Secondly, the magazine has staff has experienced layoffs and many freelancers have not been paid or are being paid late.
Eyebrows were also raised when the magazine used a stock photo for their recent Reggie Bush cover.
Essence is a staple in the Black community. Hopefully Time steps in and keeps the mag afloat.
Man its a damn shame that with all of these rappers and black actors/actresses no one would step forward and prevent this from happening. To save this magazine would probably be equivalent to Gucci's chains + Rick Ross's chains + a few of Weezy's racks and STILL.... no one would step to the plate???????????????????
